A meeting was held on Tuesday September 3rd regarding the building of a new Valle Crucis School.
The joint meeting by the Watauga County Board of Commissioners and the Watauga County Board of Education was to provide information on the proposed construction of a new school and to hear public comments related to the project. The need for a new school has been in discussion, most recently, in part due to ongoing issues with flooding from Dutch Creek during heavy rain weather events.
In March the Watauga County Board of Education approved a contract
Proponents of that building location started an online petition shortly after the announcement. Among their arguments against the building site are impacts related to: sound, air, heat, water, economic and visual.
Speakers both for and against the new location had the opportunity to speak at the Tuesday meeting. WataugaOnline.com recorded the meeting and it can be found in two parts below.
The first part is the opening of the meeting and a presentation by Dr. Scott Elliott, Superintendent of Watauga County Schools.
The second video contains the completion of the second presentation and public comments. In full disclosure, public comments were recorded up until the camera battery expired.
