Colder temperatures with snow possible this weekend

Last Updated on November 11, 2021 9:08 am

With recent high temperatures in the 70s, a cool down with possible snow will be the weather story for the weekend.

High temperatures in Boone topped out at 73 on Tuesday and 71 on Wednesday but those readings are not expected for the foreseeable future, if not for the rest of the year, as a cold front will bring several chances of snow to the High Country.

Today's approaching cold front will bring windy conditions, much cooler temperatures and the possibility of some rain. The National Weather Service (NWS) says for today – Partly sunny early this morning, then becoming mostly cloudy. A slight chance of showers early this morning, then a chance of showers this afternoon. Much cooler with highs in the mid 50s. South winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.

For tonight – Showers. Lows around 40. South winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, becoming west 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph after midnight. Chance of rain near 100 percent.

Colder air arrives Friday night bringing the possibility of snow showers. Any snow is not forecast to yield much, according to NWS.

There is a small possibility of snow showers on Saturday morning but the main weather story for that day will be the winds. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Highs only in the lower 40s, according to NWS.

The better chance of snow showers will come late Sunday night into Monday but again no real accumulation is expected at this time. Lows Sunday night in the upper 20s for most locations, highs on Monday in the upper 30s.

Looking ahead to next week:

Tuesday – Mostly clear. Highs in the upper 40s. Lows in the lower 30s.

Wednesday – Sunny. Highs in the mid 50s.
