FORECAST UPDATES from North Carolina Division of Air Quality (Wednesday, 6/7/23): Good news! After overnight and early morning values in the Code Orange and Red range, particle pollution (PM2.5) levels have lowered significantly.
We now project daily average PM2.5 values will be Code Orange and have cancelled all Code Red for today, 6/7/23.
Another Code ORANGE Air Quality Action Day has been issued statewide from midnight tonight (12AM EDT 6/8/23) through midnight tomorrow (12AM EDT 6/9/23) due to ongoing smoke impacts.
Smoky conditions will persist across North Carolina on Thursday, as the upper-level closed low continues to funnel Canadian wildfire smoke down across the eastern US. Observations and trends will be closely watched this evening and overnight, and any adjustments will be made in the morning forecast update.
