BANNER ELK – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will perform various operations next week on the N.C. 105 bridge project over the Watauga River.

In previous weeks, crews have successfully performed blasting and rock removal operations as work continues to replace the 69-year-old bridge.

The latest schedule is as follows:

  • June 24:
    • From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., N.C. 105 and Broadstone Road will be in a one-lane pattern with flaggers as Blue Ridge Energy installs a new pole at the intersection.
  • June 25 and June 27:
    • From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., crews from Wright Brothers Construction Company Inc. will perform blasting operations. Intermittent road closures will take place for no more than 30 minutes at a time as crews clear rocks and debris.
    • Beginning at 7 p.m. on June 27, crews will have intermittent road closures for no more than 30 minutes at a time for more debris removal followed by a full reopening of the road at 6 a.m. the following morning.
  • From June 24 through June 27:
    • Motorists should expect to encounter intermittent lane closures and road closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. These closures will last no more than 15 minutes as crews remove rock adjacent to the roadway.

Drivers should factor this work and related closures into their trips and be mindful of crews working close to the travel lanes in this area.
