Boone Police Make Arrest In Stolen Automobile From Charlotte Dealership

Officers with the Boone Police Department made an arrest on Tuesday regarding a reported stolen automobile from a Charlotte dealership.

James Monroe Johnson Jr , 46 years old, was arrested in a parking lot of a local business in the Perkinsville area after officers located the vehicle there, according to Sergeant Shane Robbins with Boone Police.

Johnson had worked at Keffer Chrysler Jeep Dodge & Ram in Charlotte and allegedly took a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was unclear how long the vehicle had actually been missing but Robbins did say there had been several thousand miles put on it. Johnson also allegedly took a license plate from a dealership in Wilkes County at some point after allegedly taking the Jeep.

Johnson is listed with a West Jefferson address. He is charged with Felony Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Possession of Stolen Goods and was served with a warrant from Wilkes County for Felonious Larceny by Employee. He has a $20,000 secured bond and a court date of April 17th.

According to scanner dispatches at the time, the vehicle was located using technology in the vehicle. Sergeant Robbins did confirm that but would not elaborate on what kind of technology and how it was being used.
