Blue Ridge Electric Linemen Remain on High Alert: No Outages At 5pm

Last Updated on February 12, 2014 5:04 pm

While the snow storm has caused no outages as of 4:30 p.m. for members of Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation, line technicians and all employees remain on high alert and ready to respond if needed.

Members are advised to keep the cooperative’s PowerLine outage reporting number handy in the event outages begin: 1-800-448-2383.

“Temperatures are staying around 21 degrees, which is producing a drier snow,” said Robert Kent, director of operations for Blue Ridge Electric. “Drier snow doesn’t weigh heavily on tree limbs and power lines; it won’t cause the damage and outages that a heavier, wetter snow can cause,” he added.

For updates at any time, Blue Ridge Electric features an online outage map on its website at BlueRidgeEMC.com. The cooperative also provides information during widespread outages on its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/blueridgeemc and Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/blueridgeemc.

Blue Ridge Electric serves some 74,000 members in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, Wilkes, Avery and Alexander counties
