Banner Elk Elementary School In Avery County Goes On Lockdown Monday

UPDATE – The Avery County Sheriff’s Office has addressed the situation involving the lockdown at Banner Elk Elementary School on Monday. Full statement at this link.

Banner Elk Elementary in Avery County went into a brief lockdown late Monday afternoon.

The lockdown occurred at 4:07 pm due to a suspect with a knife adjacent to the school, according to a message sent out by Ken Townsend, Superintendent of Avery County Schools. He added that the suspect was apprehended and all students were safe.
