The Avery County Sheriff's Office is warning the public of another current scam making the rounds.
This one involves a call or text stating that you have a relative who is currently being held in the Avery County Detention Facility. It will then instruct you to enter a card number from your financial institution in order to pay for a phone call to speak with the “relative.”
This is a scam. Never give personal or financial information over the phone if you are unsure of the caller. If you get a call like this simply hang up.
