Arrest Made In ABC Store Fire

Boone Police Department has announced an arrest in a fire at the Boone ABC store.

On March 11, 2020 at 11:26 p.m., the Boone Fire Department and the Boone Police Department responded to the Boone ABC Store located at 2067 Blowing Rock Road for a structure fire. It was determined that an unknown female suspect set multiple fires on the east side of the structure, according to a statement from Boone PD.

Upon completion of the joint investigation of the Boone Fire Department and Boone Police Department and the collection of multiple surveillance videos from local businesses it was determined that Elliot Leavel, 19, of Watauga County was the primary suspect.

Corporal Candace Burlingame, of the Boone Police Department located Ms. Leavel on March 13, 2020, who was at the Hospitality House located at 338 Brook Hollow Road. After Corporal Burlingame’s interview, Elliot Leavel, was placed under arrest in connection with the fire. Ms. Leavel was charged with one count of Felony Burning of a Public Building. Ms. Leavel was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate, who issued her a court date of April 24, 2020, and is being held under a $25,000 secured bond.
