AppalCART Proposed Fixed Route Changes For August 13, 2018

AppalCART gives notice of a Public Hearing regarding proposed route changes to begin August 13, 2018 The changes are for fixed route service only. The routes proposed are designed to increase capacity, allocate resources to handle peak demands, improve accessibility, and allow AppalCART to operate our fixed route service more efficiently. The changes are intended to support Appalachian State University (ASU) facility changes including the new Health Sciences Building, moving freshman parking from the State Farm Lot to the Old Watauga High School, and construction of the new End Zone building and dormitories in the Stadium Drive area. Beginning June 11th, the complete detailed proposal is available for public review at the Watauga County Public Library, Appalachian State University Library, the AppalCART Facility (305 NC Hwy 105 Bypass, Boone, NC 28607), and online at www.appalcart.com .

A public hearing to receive comments from the public has been scheduled for June 25, 2018 at 3:00 PM at the AppalCART facility. Written comments should be directed to Transportation Director Craig Hughes by email at director@appalcart.com , mail at AppalCART, 305 NC Hwy 105 Bypass, Boone, NC 28607, or phone at 828.297.1300 x 104 before June 25, 2018. TEAL ROUTE

The Teal Route will be combined with the Green East Route and renamed the Green Route. Frequencies will be maintained at every 20 minutes from 7 AM until 3 PM, every 30 minutes from 3 PM until 6 PM and every 40 minutes after 6 PM and on Saturday and Sunday.

MEDICAL CENTER SHUTTLE

The new Medical Center Shuttle Route will provide service every 10 minutes from 7 AM until 10 PM weekdays between the new Health Sciences Building and the State Farm parking lot.

STATE FARM

Freshman parking will be shifted to the old Watauga High School (ASU NC 105 Lot). The State Farm lot will provide commuter parking and parking for the new Health Sciences building. The State Farm route will be revised to serve the Horn of the West parking lot with service ending at 6 PM.

Stops along Stadium Drive will be eliminated due to planned construction.

POP 105

Service on the Pop 105 Route will be unchanged except to decrease frequency from every 10 minutes to every 15 minutes between 3 PM and 6 PM weekdays.

 

PROPOSED CHANGES

EXPRESS

Realign the route to Blowing Rock Road and extend service until 10 PM weekdays.

GOLD

Campus circulation will be provided by the new Green Route. The Gold Route will only operate after 6 PM weekdays. Stops along Faculty Street and Stadium Drive will be eliminated due to planned construction.

GREEN EAST

The Green East Route will be combined with the Teal Route and renamed the Green Route. Frequencies will be improved from every 30 minutes to every 20 minutes with service seven days per week. Service will include the new Skyline Terrace Apartments.

GREEN WEST

The route will be combined with the Red Route. This will be the new Red Route. Frequencies will be improved from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes from 7 AM until 3 PM weekdays.

The route will operate service seven days per week.

ORANGE

Service will operate along King Street every 12 minutes until 3 PM. Routing on Blowing Rock Road and NC 105 Extension will be eliminated with a revised Red Route providing service on NC 105 Extension. The new Green Route will provide service to the Mountaineer Village apartments after 6 PM and on weekends.

PINK

The Pink Route will be eliminated with replacement service from Express and Red routes.

PURPLE

From 7 AM until 3 PM frequencies will be increased from every 15 minutes to every 10 minutes. Purple Route service will end at 6 PM with service to Village at Meadowview Apartments provided by the Express Route from 6 PM to 10 PM weekdays.

RED

Two directional service will be provided along King Street, NC105 Extension, and Greenway Drive. Stops will include Walmart, Watauga Medical Center and the new ASU Health Sciences Building. From 7 AM until 3 PM weekdays frequencies will be increased from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes. The Red Route will operate seven days per week.

SILVER

The Silver Route will be realigned to operate as a counter clockwise loop along River Street, King Street, NC 105, and Blowing Rock Road. Includes service to the new Freshman Parking at old Watauga High School (ASU NC 105 Lot).

Service to the new Freshman Parking will be provided by the new Green Route after 6 PM and on weekends.
