Flags requested to fly to half-staff, County offices to close early Thursday

Below is a statement from John Welch, Chairman Watauga County Board of Commissioners:

In honor of Watauga County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Ward and Deputy Logan Fox, who gave their lives in the line of duty while protecting our citizens, the Watauga County Board of Commissioners Chairman does hereby declare May 3 – 7, 2021, as “A Week of Remembrance and Mourning.”

The Chairman further requests that all flags within the County be lowered to half-staff during this time. Funeral services for Sergeant Ward and Deputy Fox will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

In observance of the funeral services, Watauga County offices will be closing at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 6, 2021, and reopen as regularly scheduled on Friday, May 7, 2021.
