421 Vilas Wreck, Road Is Back Open

*updated 1:11pm – the scene is clear and traffic is moving again*

A wreck on 421 involving reportedly a tractor & trailer and four vehicles has traffic through Vilas at a standstill. The scene is at the car wash and old Citgo gas station. Officials are telling some local media that it will be at least 2 hours before everything is cleaned up. 2 WINGS air rescue units were dispatched to the scene in the 10am hour.

Traffic is being turned around and re-routed onto side roads.

12:48 – Watauga Democrat/Kellen Moore reports that two people were airlifted to Watauga Medical Center and the accident involved 6 vehicles. A man and woman in a Dodge truck were airlifted from a landing zone off Linville Creek Road to Johnson City Medical Center in Tennessee. Their identities and the extent of their injuries was not immediately known. More details in the Democrat's story here.
