Calendar year 2016 ended as the 4th driest on record for Boone since 1980, but could have easily became the driest. 43.51 inches of precipitation was recorded at the official Boone 1Se weather station. That falls behind 35.78 for 1988, 39.02 for 1980-1981 (1980 data is for only half the year since that is when the current reporting station went into effect), 39.29 for 1985-1986.
For the entire history of Boone weather, the 43.51 inches will remain in the Top 10 for driest years, dating back to 1929.
