The National Weather Service has posted Winter Weather Advisory that includes Avery County and Johnson County, TN. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Watauga County, those details can be found at this link.

Including the cities of Ingalls, Banner Elk, Newland, Faust,
Mars Hill, Marshall, Walnut, Allenstand, Hot Springs, Luck,
Swiss, Burnsville, Celo, Micaville, Ramseytown, Busick,
Spruce Pine, Poplar, and Asheville

…WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM TUESDAY TO 10 AM EST
THURSDAY ABOVE 3500 FEET…
* WHAT…Snow expected. Very cold wind chills expected above 3500
feet. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches expected, with
ridgetop accumulations likely reaching 3 to 5 inches. Winds
gusting as high as 35 mph. Above 3500 feet, wind chills as low
as 15 below zero expected, with values near 20 below zero along
the mountain peaks.
* WHERE…Avery, Madison, Yancey, Mitchell and Buncombe Counties.
* WHEN…For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 5 AM to 7 PM EST
Tuesday. Snow will increase through the morning hours, peak
during the late morning to early afternoon, then end from the
west mid to late afternoon. For the Wind Chill Advisory, bitter
wind chills will occur at times from 7 PM Tuesday to 10 AM EST
Thursday, with the worst conditions Wednesday night.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The
hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening
commute. The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if
precautions are not taken.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will
cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads
and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will
combine to create low wind chills. Frostbite and hypothermia can
occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and
gloves.
