Weekend Forest Fires Under Investigation, Gusty Winds Possible Factor In One Blaze

Last Updated on November 16, 2015 8:04 pm

Two forest fires in Watauga County are still under investigation as of Monday night. On Saturday (Nov 14,2015), crews with Blowing Rock Fire Department and the North Carolina Forestry Service were dispatched to a fire on Ford Road, in the Aho/Sampson community.

Stuart Scott, Watauga County Forest Ranger, tells WataugaRoads.com that the fire totaled 11.3 acres. Scott did not confirm immediately that winds played a factor in the blaze spreading, but wind gusts for much of the county were in the 20-40 mph range all day long.

Another fire on Sunday may not have been impacted by the winds as much, but still needed crews from Beaver Dam Fire, Cove Creek Fire and the North Carolina Forestry Service to contain. That fire in the Stone Mountain area is also under investigation.
