Winter Weather Advisory In Effect From 6pm Tonight Until Noon Tuesday – Dec 10-11, 2018

Town of Boone offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 10th

4:04 pm – Travel is still not advised at the is hour and overnight. Boone Police continue to respond to stranded vehicles. Roads out in the county are no better per incoming reports. NWS says tonight snow likely with a chance of freezing drizzle. Total snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches. Ice accumulation around a trace. Near steady temperature in the upper 20s. Northwest winds around 10 mph this evening, becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.

Due to continued inclement weather conditions Watauga County Offices will be closed on Monday, December 10, 2018.

On Monday, December 10, 2018 the Watauga County Sanitation Department’s Transfer Station and Container Site located at 336 Landfill Road will open at 1:00pm.  The transfer station and container sites will resume regular operating schedules on Tuesday, December 11, 2018.

Watauga County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Monday. More school closings at this link. 

10:58am Sunday, December 9, 2018 – Boone Police continue to urge motorists to stay off the roads today. One officer tells WataugaOnline.com that there are multiple stranded vehicles in town.

Update Sunday Dec 9, 2018 – 8:11am – Blue Ridge Energy crews continue to work to restore the final power outages from just before 6am this morning. At one point over 300 members were without power, as of 8:12 am only 16 members remained without power.

Link – Watauga County Issues State of Emergency Due To Winter Storm, Currently No Restrictions

The Blue Ridge Parkway road and all visitor facilities, including the Folk Art Center and the Asheville visitor center, will be closed on Dec. 9 due to ice and snow. For road and facility updates, please check the real-time road map.

Appalachian State University’s Adverse Weather Policy is in effect for non-faculty employees at Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) from 11 p.m. Saturday, December 8 until 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10. Go to http://appstatealert.com for more information, or contact your immediate supervisor with any questions.

As a reminder, all exams for Monday, Dec. 10 were re-scheduled or will meet online.
