The Watauga Arts Council will welcome 14 local and regional artists into its Main Gallery next month for “Earth & Fire: A Pottery Showcase,” a new exhibit featuring 24 unique clay pieces selected by a juried panel of artists and art leaders from the region.
The exhibit runs from August 4 through September 29 at WAC's gallery. Applicants were asked to showcase the wide range of possibilities when working with clay, and the resulting collection spans functional, sculptural and experimental styles, with both thrown and hand-built pieces made using a variety of techniques and glazes. All pieces will be available for sale throughout the exhibit's run.
WAC will also host a free artist reception on Wednesday, August 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Arts Council's office at 377 Shadowline Drive in Boone. The reception is open to the public, with light refreshments and the opportunity to meet the artists, view the exhibit and purchase artwork.
Artists featured in the exhibit include Addie Low, Aniseh Bro, Carol Thompson, Caroline Craigie, Darlene Berry, Donald Ray, Ian Wilson, Laura Aultman, Megan Good, Molly Chamness, Nik Hermanovski, Paul Hegner, Stephanie Ballance and Timothy Brown.
