Tuesday night structure fire on Don Hayes Road in Deep Gap

Multiple departments responded to a Tuesday night fire in Deep Gap.

The fire, at 221 Don Hayes Road, was dispatched out at 11:09 pm and the first arriving crews found flames and heavy smoke, according to Watauga County Fire Marshall Shane Garland.

Two people had escaped the house and were treated by Medics and taken to Watauga Medical Center. The fire was controlled by 11:30 pm and fire units stayed on scene till 2 am.

Garland says the fire started from a chimney fire that extended into the structure.

Deep Gap Fire, Boone Fire, Stewart Simmons Fire, Todd Fire, Meat Camp Fire, Watauga Medics, Watauga Rescue, the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and the Watauga Fire Marshal Office all responded to the scene.
