Thursday, Sept 18, 2025 – NC 105 Tonight: South of the Watauga River, 7pm-early morning hours, Rock-scaling operations planned, Flaggers will direct traffic in a one-lane pattern

Thursday, Sept 11, 2025 – NC 105 today: 11am-2pm; 7pm to early Friday: Brief closures possible to clear the road.

Poplar Grove Road, from Burrell Street to Poplar Grove Connector, will be reduced to one lane today, September 8th, to replace a damaged fire hydrant. Due to the nature of Poplar Grove Road, motorists are asked to please drive with caution while the repair is taking place. Poplar Grove Road is expected to be reduced to one lane for 2 to 4 hours.

Tuesday, September 2 – What to expect on NC 105 this week: Weds & Thurs, 11am-2pm, Crews may close the highway long enough to clear debris from the road, LEOs and flaggers will direct traffic.

UPDATE THURSDAY, AUG 28, 2025 – Night-time work on NC 105 at the bridge project, 7pm thru early Friday morning. One lane will be closed while crews conduct rock scaling operations. Slow down and use caution in the work zone.

Tuesday Aug 26 – Allow extra travel time again today on Boone Mountain/421 in the area of Greer Lane for pipe replacement. That section of road down to one lane.

Monday August 25 – What to expect on NC 105 this week: Today thru Wednesday, 11am-2pm, South of the Watauga River, Crews may close the road briefly to remove debris, Slow down and follow directions from LEOs and flaggers.

Monday August 18 – What to expect on NC 105 this week: Crews working south of the Watauga River. Monday thru Thursday, 11am-2pm; Thurs from 7pm-early Friday. Workers may close the road long enough to clear debris. LEOs, flaggers will direct traffic.

Thursday, Aug 14, 2025, from the Town of Blowing Rock – “Paving on Green Street and Maple Street will tentatively begin tomorrow and will take place over the next few weeks. Thank you to everyone for their continued patience through the paving process.”

UPDATED work schedule for 105 at the bridge project today (Thursday August 14, 2025) –  7pm tonight into early Friday – brief closures while crews clear the road.

Tuesday Aug 12, 2025 – Longer delays possible tonight on NC 105. Starting at 7pm crews will close the road as long as it takes to remove debris.

Banner Elk: Culvert replacement scheduled for Dobbins Road. About 1 mile from NC 184. Begins Weds 8/13. One lane closed while crews replace a box culvert. Signals will guide drivers around work

Wednesday Aug 6, 2025 – Nighttime work on NC 105 this week – 7pm Thurs through early Friday. Crews will conduct rock scaling operations. One lane closed, flaggers will direct traffic

Wednesday August 6, 2025 – Weather delayed yesterday's scheduled operations on 105 at the bridge project. Crews will be back in action today from 11am-2pm. Longer than usual closures possible while crews clear the road.

Monday August 4 – Part of 194 in Ashe County to close Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. More information at this link.

Sunday August 3 – NC 105 This Week – Tues 11am-2pm; Thurs 11am-2pm. Longer than usual road closures possible while crews clear the road. LEOs and flaggers will direct traffic

School starts back in Johnson County TN on Monday August 4th. Be mindful of buses on the roads and increased traffic in school zones.

Upcoming DOT Road Closure August 4-15, Howard's Creek Rd near 194. Howards Creek Rd closed 200′ from NC 194 to replace a large culvert. Expected impact to traffic is High. Detour – Use NC 194 to Clint Lewis Rd to Howards Creek Rd

Boone – On August 4th and 5th, both lanes of Burrell Street, from King Street to Rivers Street, will be closed to thru-traffic to install conduit for the Howard Street Project, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to take the following alternate routes:

• To access Rivers Street from King Street or King Street from Rivers Street, motorists are advised to take either S. Depot Street or Poplar Grove Connector.

Thursday, July 31, 2025 – Browns Chapel Road has reopened at Bamboo Road, according to NCDOT. Crews finished a culvert replacement near the intersection this afternoon. The new structure increases hydraulic capacity. Helene damaged the previous culvert.

Thursday July 24 NC 105 Update – Tonight, 7pm until early morning hours crews plan to perform scaling operations. One lane will be closed with flaggers directing traffic.

Thursday July 24 4:41pm – Wreck – 421 and 105 bypass intersection. Expect delays.

Wednesday July 23 – Allow extra travel time around some of the athletic fields in Watauga over the coming days. 40 teams will be playing in the State Baseball Tournament,  using both WHS fields, both Optimist fields and 4 of the Complex fields by the Rec Center. Starts Thursday and runs through Sunday.

On Monday, July 21, 2025, Blue Ridge Parkway officials opened a section of the 469-mile historic route in North Carolina from milepost 305.2, near Beacon Heights and U.S. 221, to milepost 317.5, at U.S. 221 at the access point to the Linville Falls community. More information here.

Thursday July 17th 1:10pm – There is heavy traffic congestion on NC 105 in the area of the bridge construction. Traffic is down to one lane. Expect delays. More brief closures are possible tonight at 7 pm to clear the road. Be cautious in the work zone and follow directions from flaggers

Thursday July 17th 11am-2pm – 105 South of the Watauga River Bridge – Crews may have NC 105 closed briefly to clear the road – Longer than usual wait times possible

Traffic Alert for Thursday, July 10, 2025 – Allow extra travel time on 105 in Watauga & Avery for the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Estimates from last year are that more than 44,000 people attended the 4-day event.
