The Town of Blowing Rock is excited to announce the promotion of Nathan Kirk to Police Chief.
Nathan has worked for the Blowing Rock Police Department for 5 years as a Patrol Lieutenant and Captain. He started his law enforcement career in 2012 with an internship at Avery County Sheriff’s Office. Nathan also worked for Appalachian State University Police Department as a public safety officer.
In addition to working for ASU, he attained a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in their program; and he is currently working towards a Master of Science degree with a concentration in advanced law enforcement leadership from Liberty University. He recently graduated from the NC State University Executive Law Enforcement Program. Before law enforcement, Nathan served in the United States Army Reserve for 6 years. His background brings a great work ethic with a desire to build and maintain strong relationships between law enforcement and the community.
The Town of Blowing Rock received 85 applications for the chief position from 24 states and 1 application from Nova Scotia, Canada. The interview process consisted of a panel of experts, and they decided unanimously on the new hire.
