Last Updated on September 22, 2017 8:27 pm

Showers and storms, moving in from the north, created some flooding issues in parts of Boone for a short time on Friday afternoon.

The storms first moved into Watauga County around 4:30pm, but it was not until the 5pm hour the impacts were felt in Boone. At 5:15pm a thunderstorm was located over Boone, moving southwest at 10 mph. A peak wind gust of 20 mph was recorded at the Watauga Medical Center reporting station also at 5:15pm.

The strong downpour created flooding issues in the Boone Mall parking lot 321 side. The photo below from Susan Calamai shows the depth the waters peaked at. Pea size hail was also reported on the east side of Boone.
