…SPOTTY LIGHT ICE AND SNOW ACCUMULATION POSSIBLE AROUND
DAYBREAK IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS…

A cold front has passed the southern Appalachians and temperatures
are expected to fall quickly this morning in higher elevations of
the North Carolina mountains. Precipitation will remain possible
through mid-morning, although becoming increasingly light with
time. Where temperatures fall below freezing, the precipitation
may fall as light snow, with northwest-facing slopes also likely
to see a minimal amount of ice accumulation. At some locations
above 3500 feet, and possibly in some lower valley locations along
the Tennessee border, this could result in bridges and decks
becoming slippery. Sunshine will return by late morning and
temperatures will rise above freezing by midday at all but the
highest ridge tops.
