Traffic Shift On 321 In Blowing Rock Goes Live

Last Updated on March 29, 2016 3:52 pm

Southbound as well as northbound traffic on 321 shifted onto the new alignment from Tanger Outlets to US 321 Bus/S. Main St. yesterday afternoon. This traffic shift places northbound and southbound traffic in its respective outside lane relative to the median. All traffic exiting businesses along this section of the project will now be required to turn right when entering #US321. Traffic needing to turn left will be required to first turn right, then travel to the nearest crossover in order to make a U-Turn. This design feature will provide much safer traffic flow through the area. Drivers are encouraged to initially allow extra time while traveling to and through this area in order to become familiar with this new traffic pattern.

Additionally, a SHORT-TERM, TEMPORARY TRAFFIC PATTERN PROHIBITING LEFT TURNS INTO AND OUT OF LITTLE SPRINGS RD AT THE FOOD LION SHOPPING CENTER will be activated. Drivers wishing to turn left when exiting Little Springs will first need to turn right, then travel to US 221/US 321 Bus/Main Street and make a uturn, then continue on southward. Drivers wishing to turn left to enter Little Springs will first need to travel on southward to Samaritan's Purse, make a uturn, then travel back to Little Springs. This temporary pattern is necessary in order for the contractor to complete work in the median at this intersection and is anticipated to last approximately two weeks.
