Shots Fired in Domestic Dispute in Ashe County

Todd N.C. – Sheriff B. Phil Howell announces the arrest of 27-year-old Christopher Thomas Bumgarner-Mushrim after shots were fired during a domestic dispute. 

On Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024, at approximately 6:00 pm, Ashe County 911 Dispatch received a call about a domestic dispute where subject Bumgarner allegedly had discharged a firearm toward two female subjects. No injuries were reported in this incident. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene and detained Bumgarner. Deputies located the handgun and discovered 3 missing rounds from the magazine. 

Ashe County Sheriff’s Detectives and Officers took statements from multiple witnesses. Bumgarner was placed under arrest and transported to the Ashe County Detention Center without incident. Once the subject arrived, Detention officers found a clear baggie containing a crystal substance, later identified as Methamphetamine, during the thorough search of Bumgarner. 

Christopher Thomas Bumgarner-Mushrim, age 27 of Todd, was placed under a $25,000 secured bond and later released. His charges include: 

• Felony Possession of Firearm by Felon 

• Felony Possess Controlled Substance Jail Premises 

• 2 Counts Assault with Deadly Weapon
