The Watauga County Board of Education is seeking to fill a vacant Board seat following the resignation of a member due to family health circumstances.
Individuals interested in being considered for this appointment must submit a letter of interest outlining their desire to serve in this role. Letters must be received no later than Friday, May 8 at 12:00 p.m. and submitted to:
Leigh Lyall (Executive Assistant to the Superintendent and Board of Education)
lyallkl@wataugaschools.org
All letters of interest will be shared with Board members for review. The Board will discuss potential candidates during a special-called meeting on Monday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m., prior to the regularly scheduled closed and open sessions. A recommendation to fill the vacancy will be an action item during the May 11 open session.
Although Board of Education elections beginning in November 2026 will be conducted by district (aligned with Watauga County Board of Commissioners districts), residents from any district are eligible to be considered for this appointment, as the vacated seat was originally elected prior to the implementation of the new district structure.
The appointment will fulfill the term ending with Board of Education elections in 2028.
Please note that all letters of interest are considered public records and will be discussed in an open meeting.
