A portion of Poplar Grove Road will be closed during the first week of September for drainage improvements.
Kevin Whittington, Watauga County Maintenance Engineer, informs WataugaOnline.com that the roadway will be closed Tuesday September 5 at 8am until Thursday September 7 at 5pm weather permitting. The portion to be closed will be southwest of Poplar Grove Connector Road in order to replace a drainage pipe across Poplar Grove Road. NCDOT says that the project could involve digging as deep as 23 feet below street level.
The detour for the closure will be to take River Street southeast to US 321 south to NC 105 and go back south to Poplar Grove Road on the right.
