Saturdays in September are typically known to bring large crowds to watch App State home football games, this weekend will be a little different.

Over 32,000 attendees are expected as country music star, and Grand Ole Opry member, Luke Combs performs at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The concert was originally scheduled for May 2, 2020, moved to May 1, 2021 and then moved again to this Saturday, September 2, 2021 due to continued COVID-19 social distancing restrictions.

The former Appalachian State student will headline the show, which starts at 6 pm, “as The Rock plays host to its first large-scale stadium show in its 59 year history!”, according to the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Boone Development Association have worked with partners at Appalachian State University to provide some key operational details and expectations for the days leading up to showtime.

  • While some attendees will be arriving late in the week, the bulk of concert goers will likely arrive as the day goes on Saturday. Similar to a football gameday, Appalachian State will operate paid parking lots in and around the stadium area. Lots closer to the immediate downtown area will open at 10am for attendees at a cost of $40 per vehicle.
  • Numerous off campus lots will be available for paid parking for concert attendees. For the latest list and maps, visit the Downtown Boone Development Association website.

Live Nation is producing this show and began a significant buildout of staging, chairs, and other needs starting Tuesday morning, according to the Chamber. There will be a significant number of trucks, tractor-trailers, and delivery vehicles will be in and around the stadium area, thus providing additional traffic to Rivers St. These operations will be continuous through Sunday following the concert.
