North Carolina sports betting to go live March 11, 2024

Today, the North Carolina State Lottery Commission formally adopted the Sports Wagering Authorization and set noon on Monday, March 11, 2024, as the time for which legal sports wagering may commence in North Carolina.

Only eligible licensed interactive sports wagering operators may offer and accept sports wagers, which must be placed through player-specific interactive accounts. Licensed operators who hold Certificates of Compliance can begin registering players on March 1. Players/betters must be 21 years of age or older.

Governor Roy Cooper signed House Bill 347 into law last June, which allowed for betting on sports and horse racing. “Bets on sporting events have been made for as long as those events have taken place, but this time they will be legal, they will be done securely and fairly, and they will be made under rules designed to encourage responsible gaming,” commission Chair Ripley Rand said in a news release.

The opportunity to bet on this year's Super Bowl will not be an option, however, it is of note that the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament is scheduled to begin at noon on March 12 and the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments start the following week.

The Commission will maintain a list of licensed interactive sports wagering operators on its website https://ncgaming.gov/.
