New traffic lights on highway 321 are set begin operation this week. Daniel Adams, Division Traffic Engineer with NCDOT, tells WataugaRoads.com that the lights will be in flash mode sometime this week and in full operation starting sometime next week. The new traffic light location is also in part to the Chestnut Ridge post-acute care facility, which is scheduled for completion in 2016.
As had been the case for many years, an unofficial signal that either Spring or Winter was approaching was the annual moving of the traffic lights from Tweetsie Railroad to the intersection of Edmisten Road in the fall, and then back to Tweetsie near the start of Spring. Adams says that NCDOT will remove the signal heads at Tweetsie during the winter months as they have done in the past.
