Traffic delays anticipated on Thursday in Avery County

BANNER ELK – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will implement a traffic shift on N.C. 184, and drivers should be aware of potentials delays on Thursday.

Flagging operations will occur near Dobbins Road as construction crews safely install pavement markings and traffic control devices. Drivers will also notice digital message boards and work zone signs prior to the project limits. They will show a new 25 mph speed limit in the work zone.

Drivers may experience periodic delays on Thursday while crews from Blythe Construction complete final preparations of the temporary alignment. Delays may include bringing traffic to a complete stop in order to safely move equipment.

Crews began operations in late June to replace a culvert damaged by Hurricane Helene. Transportation officials anticipate completing construction of the culvert that carries Hanging Rock Creek under N.C. 184 later this year.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, include additional travel time, and of course, remain alert and drive with caution.
