High winds lead to power outages in Watauga last night and overnight. 1,429 Blue Ridge Electric members in Foscoe and Valle Crucis were affected at 10:17 pm, for a little over 2 hours, according to Blue Ridge Electric.
Linemen were able to restore members with power, but were not able to determine the cause at that time. At 12:41 am, an outage to this area occurred again and this time linemen found the cause: a limb on power lines that apparently was caused by the high winds.
Linemen were able to repair the damage and restore the outage in an hour and 49 minutes. An outage at Chetola occurred just after 6 am this morning, affecting 511 members. Linemen restored that outage in 41 minutes but are still investigating the cause. Also at 5:30 am this morning, linemen worked to restore power to 101 members in the Blackberry community.
Boone recorded a peak wind gust overnight of 55mph at 5:15am.
