BANNER ELK – The N.C. Department of Transportation is preparing to replace a culvert Hurricane Helene damaged.

Beginning Monday, June 1, crews may close lanes of N.C. 184 between Dobbins Road and Hickory Nut Gap Road throughout the week while they relocate existing gas lines ahead of a culvert replacement project. Flaggers will direct traffic throughout the week.

Hurricane Helene damaged the culvert that carries Hanging Rock Creek under N.C. 184. Temporary repairs helped reopen the highway shortly after Helene tore through western North Carolina, but permanent repairs will begin later this year.

Drivers should avoid distractions, remain alert and obey all posted signs.
