As part of the Interstate 40/77 interchange improvement project in Statesville, I-40 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between exits 150-151 as part of the Radio Road bridge replacement over the interstate.
Traffic will be shifted into the median crossovers nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Tuesday, July 9 between exits 150-151. Girders for the new bridge will be put in place as part of the $89.1 million interchange improvement project. Weather permitting, this part of the project is scheduled to be completed by July 23.
Speed limits through the work zone will be reduced to 35 miles per hour. Rolling road blocks may be conducted periodically to slow down traffic to allow construction equipment to enter the interstate.
Radio Road traffic continues to be detoured to N.C. 115 to access I-40 at Exit 150. Radio Road traffic north of I-40 will take Museum Road to N.C. 115, while Radio Road traffic south of I-40 will take Hartness Road to N.C. 115. The intersection of Radio Road, Gaither Road and Museum Road north of I-40 will become a three-way stop during the bridge replacement.
