High Country Gas Prices Hold Steady at $3.61; NC Average Drops Below Local Low

Last Updated on June 22, 2026 2:31 pm

Gas prices in the Boone area are holding steady this week, with the local low for regular unleaded at $3.61 per gallon — down just a penny from last week's $3.62 low.

Multiple stations are at the $3.61 mark, including Sheetz on Chestnut Drive, Circle K on Blowing Rock Road, Speedway on Blowing Rock Road, and Circle K on 771 Blowing Rock Road. Most other Boone-area stations are at $3.62, with Banner Elk and Quality Plus locations at $3.63.

The North Carolina statewide average has now dropped to $3.552 per gallon, according to AAA — below the Boone area's local low, reflecting that the High Country tends to run slightly above statewide averages. The national average stands at $3.938 per gallon, down from $4.044 last week and continuing a multi-week downward trend.

Diesel prices also eased slightly. The county's diesel low is $4.86 per gallon at the Speedway in Banner Elk. Quality Plus in Blowing Rock is at $4.94, while most Boone-area stations are at $4.99, with Circle K on Blowing Rock Road at $5.07.

Despite weeks of declining prices, the Boone area remains above last year's levels. The national average is still roughly $1.00 per gallon higher than this time in 2025.

WataugaOnline publishes a weekly gas prices report. Prices are sourced from GasBuddy and AAA. Prices may vary by location and change after posting.
