High Country drivers are heading into the Fourth of July holiday weekend with the lowest local gas prices seen in many months, as the Boone-area low for regular unleaded dropped to $3.49 per gallon Wednesday — down 12 cents from last week's $3.61 low.
Multiple stations are at $3.49, including Sheetz on Chestnut Drive, BP on Blowing Rock Road, Quality Plus on US-421 North, Harris Teeter on Blowing Rock Road, Speedway on Blowing Rock Road, and Exxon on Blowing Rock Road. Quality Plus on Calloway Road is at $3.51, with the range topping out at $3.59 at Circle K on NC-105 South.
The North Carolina statewide average stands at $3.504 per gallon, according to AAA — down from $3.552 last week. The national average is $3.847, down from $3.938 last week, continuing a weeks-long downward trend.
Diesel prices are also easing, with the county low at $4.99 per gallon at multiple stations across the area. Circle K on Blowing Rock Road is the high end at $5.07.
The drop in prices comes as a welcome development ahead of the Independence Day travel weekend, when AAA typically projects tens of millions of Americans on the road. Lower gas prices could ease the financial burden for families planning holiday travel.
WataugaOnline publishes a weekly gas prices report. Prices are sourced from GasBuddy and AAA. Prices may vary by location and change after posting.
