The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

* Flood Advisory for…
Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…

* Until 445 PM EDT

* At 148 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Boone…
Blowing Rock…
Beech Mountain…
Foscoe…
and Sugar Grove.

Heavy rainfall fell yesterday across this region and additional
heavy rainfall and thunderstorms were spreading into the county from
the west and south. Additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is
possible in some locations across the county during the next three
hours. Minor flooding is likely, especially in normally flood prone,
low-lying, and poor drainage areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
