The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

  • Flash Flood Warning for…
    Northeastern Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina…
  • Until 900 PM EDT.
  • At 304 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
    heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain
    have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 3 to 4 inches in 1
    hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in
    the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
    shortly.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Radar.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

South Fork New River, Osborn Creek, Piney Branch, Little Peak
Creek, Meadow Fork, Darnell Creek, Peak Creek, Roten Creek,
Mulberry Creek, North Fork Reddies River and Prathers Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free at 1…8 6 6…2 1 5…4 3 2 4. Reports
