Camper Destroyed in Accidental Fire Sunday Afternoon in Sugar Grove; One Person Transported to Watauga Medical Center

A camper was destroyed in an accidental fire Sunday afternoon in the Sugar Grove community of Watauga County, and one person was transported to Watauga Medical Center with minor injuries.

Watauga County Communications received the call at just after 4:00 p.m. on May 17 reporting a camper fire in the 700 block of Council Ward Road in the Beaver Dam Fire District. Responders arrived to find the camper fully engulfed.

The fire spread into an adjacent wooded area before crews were able to bring it under control. The cause was determined to be accidental. The camper was a total loss.

Responding units included the Beaver Dam, Cove Creek, Zionville, and Fall Creek fire departments, along with NC Forestry, Watauga County EMS, the Fire Marshal's Office, and Watauga Rescue.
