The SafeWise Report released its “50 Safest Cities in North Carolina” report this week. To compile this report, SafeWise used the most recent FBI crime data from 2013 to analyze and rank these cities, which all have a minimum population of 4,000 people. Boone has made the list previously.
“It's assumed that big cities and high crime go hand in hand, but our investigation of the safest cities in North Carolina reminds us that's not always the case,” SafeWise security analyst Alexia Chianis said. “While we found a number of small safe cities in the Tar Heel state, several highly populated cities made our list too, including Cary, Chapel Hill, Concord, and Raleigh. Many of the large cities on our list are comprised of a number of neighborhoods and business districts. This gives residents the chance to get to know one another, like they do in a small town, and community cohesiveness helps keep crime at bay.”
“We are very pleased that Boone is once again considered one of the safest cities in North Carolina. Over the past few years, we have progressed upward on the scale and moved an additional four spots over last year; from 19th up to 15th safest city. Although we believe that many of our enforcement and deterrence initiatives are effective, it is ultimately our partnership with the community that keeps Boone moving in the right direction. Regardless of where Boone is ranked on the Safest Cities list, the welfare of our citizens will always remain our top priority. Boone Police Department will continue to work hard and constantly evaluate and improve upon the services we provide in order to maintain the trust of our residents and all who enjoy the High Country year round.” – Chief of Police Dana B. Crawford
“Boone is a vibrant community with so much to offer. As the home to a nationally recognized university and a diverse community of people from all walks of life, Boone is a great place to live, work, learn and play. We are proud of the men and women who serve and protect our community, and it is with great pride that they are recognized for their accomplishment of having the Town of Boone ranked 15th among the 50 safest cities in North Carolina.” – Town Manager John A. Ward III
