Back-to-Back Chases End in 2 Arrests in Ashe County

On January 25th, around 11:30 am, Sheriff Deputy Elliott was patrolling the Lansing area when he noticed a truck with a large box shell exceeding safe speed limits. Deputy Elliott initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle refused to stop and increased in speed. While in pursuit, the box shell became loose and fell off the truck into the roadway, causing one lane of traffic to become blocked. The subject suddenly pulled off the highway into a ditch and ran on foot into the woods.

Deputies followed him, and he refused to obey commands. Sgt. Vogler was able to locate the male and take him into custody. The subject was then identified as

42-year-old Kenneth James Ham Jr. Deputies found a large baggie containing a white crystal substance, later identified as Methamphetamine and a container with various pills.

Deputies transported Kenneth James Ham Jr of Lansing to the Ashe County Detention Center.

On January 27th, around 2:30 am, Sheriff Deputy Carter was conducting patrol on West Brushy Fork when he observed a small truck in violation of North Carolina traffic laws. Deputy Carter attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the truck exceeded the speed limit. The vehicle became airborne off a bank and continued back down the roadway. Deputy Bledsoe was able to deploy spike stripes and successfully deflated the front tires. After reaching the vehicle, the subject placed his truck in reverse and rammed a patrol car. When the truck had finally stopped, deputies were able to detain the subject, who was identified as 41-year-old Michael Lee Greever.

Deputies transported Michael Lee Greever of Mountain City, TN, to the Ashe County Detention Center.

Kenneth James Ham Jr, age 42, of Lansing, was placed under a $290,000 secured bond.

Michael Lee Greever, age 41, of Mountain City, TN, was placed under a $50,000 secured bond.

  • Resisting Public Officer
  • DWLR Not Impaired REV
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon
