Back 2 School Festival Returns to Watauga High School on August 8

BOONE — The annual Back 2 School Festival is returning to Watauga High School on Saturday, August 8, 2026, giving High Country families a community gathering point to mark the end of summer and prepare for the new academic year.

The festival, which has become a community tradition in the region, offers families resources, activities, and information as students gear up to head back to the classroom. Events typically include school supply giveaways, community organization booths, food, and entertainment — all designed to ensure students start the year ready to learn.

Watauga High School, located in Boone, serves as the main gathering site for the event, which draws families from across the county. The August 8 date falls just ahead of the Watauga County Schools calendar for the 2026-27 school year.

Organizers are currently seeking volunteers and donations to support this year's festival. Those interested in donating supplies, money, or time can find information at Back2SchoolFest.org.

“This festival is about making sure every child in our community has what they need to succeed,” organizers said. “It takes the whole community to pull it off, and we're grateful for everyone who shows up.”

The event is free and open to all Watauga County families. More details on the schedule and activities will be announced closer to the August 8 date.
