If you are being pulled over by an unmarked car and have doubts about whether it is a legitimate officer, take the following precautions to verify the stop:
Activate Hazard Lights: Turn on your emergency flashers to acknowledge the vehicle while slowing down below the speed limit. Do not attempt to speed up in an attempt to outrun the officer.
Drive to a Safe Location: Do not pull over on a dark, isolated stretch of road. Proceed to a well-lit, populated area—such as a gas station or a busy parking lot.
Confirm the Officer's Identity: If you suspect the vehicle is a fake, lock your doors and slightly roll down your window to ask for identification or an official badge.
Call 911: You can immediately call 911 to provide the vehicle description and ask dispatchers if a legitimate deputy or trooper is attempting to pull you over in your current area.
