BOONE, N.C. — Saturday’s home-opening football game against Southern Miss will not be played because of increasing concerns related to Hurricane Florence, and several Appalachian State Athletics events planned for this weekend have also been rescheduled.
The following home sports events are being rescheduled:
– Women’s soccer’s Sun Belt opener vs. South Alabama, originally scheduled for Friday, has been rescheduled for Sunday, Oct. 14 (time TBD).
– Women’s soccer’s match vs. Little Rock, originally scheduled for Sunday, has been rescheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.
– The men’s soccer match vs. Bradley, originally scheduled for Sunday, is being postponed to a yet-to-be-determined date.
Hall of Fame Celebration
The Appalachian State University Athletics Hall of Fame celebration has been moved to Nov. 17.
The Hall of Fame induction breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. that day, and the on-field ceremony will occur during the 2:30 p.m. football game against Georgia State.

The members of the 44th Hall of Fame class are, in alphabetical order, Mark Fee (wrestling, 1999-2003), Anna Freeman Healy (women's basketball, 2009-13), Wes Hobson (baseball, 2007-10), Corey Lynch (football, 2003-07), Marques Murrell (football, 2003-06) and D.J. Thompson (men's basketball, 2003-07).
Football Alumni Tailgate
Next weekend, the football alumni tailgate affiliated with the 10-year-reunion of the 2008 football team that won a Southern Conference championship will begin two hours before the Mountaineers face Gardner-Webb in a 3:30 p.m. home game Sept. 22 at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Other Team Reunions and Events
An alumni event for App State Men's and Women's Tennis, a gathering for App State Wrestling and a reunion celebrating the 50-year-anniversary of the 1968 team coached by Carl Messere may also be rescheduled.
