BOONE, N.C. — During the May 27, 2026 meeting of the Boone Town Council, Anitra Ball was officially sworn in to serve as a member of the Boone Town Council. Anitra fills the vacant seat previously held by Councilmember Eric Plaag, who concluded his term early in April 2026.
Anitra is a life-long Boone resident, and currently works at Appalachian State University in the University Operations division. Anitra is passionate about solving problems associated with affordable housing in Boone, including affordable housing for senior citizens, as well as strengthening communication between underrepresented communities in Boone and the Boone Town Council. A volunteer at heart, Anitra currently serves on multiple committees, including the Church Leadership Team at the Boone Mennonite Brethren Church and has previously served on multiple committees at Appalachian State University.

The Boone Town Council meets regularly on the second Wednesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. and the fourth Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. Meetings are held in the Boone Town Council Chambers, located at 1500 Blowing Rock Road.
