A mix bag of weather will be on tap for the High Country over the coming days.
First is Storm Nicole. As of Wednesday night the storm had strengthened into a hurricane and was located off the south Florida east coast. The storm will shortly drop status to a tropical storm after the US landfall. For more on the impacts as it moves into western North Carolina on Friday follow this link.
Once the storm moves out of the High Country, much colder conditions and snow is expected for next week. The National Weather Service (NWS) says that highs on Saturday will only reach the 40s for most local locations and lows in the 20s. Highs on Sunday are forecast to be in the 30s and lows again in the 20s. 40s for highs on Monday with lows again in the 20s.
The first mention of possible snow is for Tuesday. As of Wednesday night, NWS says there is a chance of snow Tuesday morning. However, NWS also states that it is way too early to expect anything substantial with that system but it is something to watch.
