The investigation into a wreck that claimed the life of an Ashe County woman is ongoing. The crash on highway 221 on Monday morning, involving two cars, claimed the life of Colleen Larkin age 58 of West Jefferson, according to the Jefferson Post newspaper.
Just before 6:40am Larkin was traveling north near Cranberry Springs Road when her vehicle left the road, came back onto the road and went left of center, the paper reports. Her 2008 Chevy Impala struck Chase Dillard, age 25, driving a 2013 Chevy Silverado.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol says that speed and weather was not a factor, but mud in the roadway may have played a factor.
