Storms Cause Power Outages In Ashe & Watauga On Friday Into Saturday Morning

Around 2,000 Blue Ridge Energy members in Ashe and Watauga were impacted by a line of fast-moving storms on Friday and into Saturday morning.

The heaviest damage occurred in Ashe County’s Creston community where a large tree fell, bringing down 3-phase power lines and breaking power pole, according to Blue Ridge Energy.

At 8 pm, 507 members were affected and crews were able to get 50 members restored by 10 pm; 450 by 10:30 pm and the remaining restored by 5:50 am Saturday.

In Ashe County’s Smethport community, two areas were affected with trees falling into power lines. In one area, 960 members lost power at 8 pm, with 945 restored by 9:45 pm and the remaining members restored by 1:15 am.

In the second damaged area of Smethport, 507 members lost power at 8:16 pm. Crews were able to get 482 members restored with power by 10:45 pm, with full power restoration to this area by 11:15 pm.

Finally, in the Zionville community of Watauga County, 497 members lost power at 12:52 pm when a tree fell on power lines. Crews had power restored by 2:13 am.
