BLOWING ROCK – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a Watauga County road this week for road stabilization and repair.
Beginning the morning of Oct. 16, crews from GeoStabilization International will close Aho Road from Blackberry Road to Cross Creek Farm Road.
The preferred detour route is as follows:
- From Aho Road, turn right onto the Blue Ridge Parkway.
- Turn left onto Sampson Road.
- Turn left onto George Hayes Road.
- Turn left onto Bamboo Road.
- Turn left onto Deerfield Road.
- Turn left onto U.S. 321 to Aho Road.
GSI earned the emergency contract following damage to the road from Hurricane Helene.
This closure will be in effect for several weeks with updates to follow on the road’s reopening.
