N.C. Department of Transportation will close the Railroad Grade Road bridge over the Old Fields Creek in Fleetwood from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 25-27, weather permitting, to make repairs. The work will consist of rehabilitation to some steel girders, as well as replacing some steel plank flooring and paving.
The bridge, which was built in 1970, will have crews at the work site from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. From 7-9 a.m. and 3-5 p.m., the road will be open with a flagman directing traffic. No work will be performed from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. Portable message boards will be in place to inform the public of the project.
An alternate route around the project has been set up. From the west side of the bridge, take Railroad Grade Road for about 3.3 miles to New River Bridge Road, turn left and then left again onto Liberty Grove Church Road. Go about 2.7 miles, turn left onto U.S. 221 North, and go approximately 2 miles back to Railroad Grade Road. Eastbound traffic will reverse directions.
NCDOT reminds motorists to stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
