Creston, N.C. – Sheriff B. Phil Howell announces the arrest of 54–year–old Johnny Mitchell Guy of Mountain City, TN, after fleeing officers.
On Monday, January 1st, 2024, at approximately 11:00 pm, Deputy Josh Carter was patrolling the W. Brushy Fork area when he noticed a vehicle in violation of North Carolina traffic laws. After attempting to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle refused to stop and increased its speed. After a short pursuit, the vehicle was stopped, and Deputy Carter placed Guy under arrest.
K9 Officer Deputy Bledsoe arrived on the scene and found a clear glass smoking pipe with drug residue and a fixed-blade knife inside the cab of the truck.
Deputies transported Guy to the Ashe County Detention Center, where Detention Officer Brandon Edgecomb conducted the intake process. During this, Detention Officers found two clear baggies and a vial of a white, crystal substance that was later identified to be Methamphetamine and several pills. All evidence found will be submitted to the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for
further analysis, which may result in additional charges at a later date.
“Our staff conducts multiple steps on every arrest for the safety of the officers, the suspect, and the other inmates being held in the Detention Center. Our law enforcement officers conducted multiple checks on the scene, and detention officers conducted a final inspection of the inmate before going back to our holding facilities. This is just one instance that the multiple checks worked out and will result in additional charges.” ~ Sheriff Howell
Johnny Mitchell Guy, 54, of Mountain City, TN, was booked on the following charges and placed under a $15,000 secured bond.
